We know there are two new POV's in the new book, one being Cersei's, but does anyone have a hint as to who the second one is??

Ahhhh, good question. Assuming it's not a character we haven't heard of, we have to assume it's someone at least marginally important, ie Cersei's equivalent.

Thinking about it that way, it seems characters like Varys or Petyr would be possibilites. When Martin added Jaime, he was a key figure in the realm.

With Sansa already with Petyr however, it seems unlikely that'd be the focus of new chapters. Other possibilities would include Beric (Taking over Catelyn's POV, as it were), and Sandor - although that might be difficult to write if he's dead.

I'm going to go with Varys, just for kicks. Any ideas people?

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT !!!

On the new POV's, it will most definitely NOT be either Varys or Petyr (or Howland Reed for that matter) !
GRRM once said that all of these characters simply "know too much" to let us share in their thoughts. So no future-POV's of this interesting threesome as well (unless GRRM has a drastic change of mind).

Now, I do seem to recall from some other boards that the last POV was still uncertain, but I'm a bit foggy on the details.
However, either there was a VERY good chance (or it was already certain) that there would be a POV of an Ironman, more specifically Euron Greyjoy. He will be a MAJOR 'new' character, anyway.

Check out the EZ-boards on ASOIAF if you want to know for certain; I'm too lazy to be bothered right now...

I didn't check out any of the other boards yet, but as soon as I read my own mail again this morning (Dutch time, obviously !), I recalled that another very likely POV should be connected to Dorne.
They are really coming into the action now, so a link to them would seem unavoidable, perhaps ? I'm a bit uncertain who we've got out of the 'old' POV's that might apply as our 'eye' on the Dornish(wo)men...

Does anyone recall if someone was going to be attached to the 'Dornes' ?

Wasn't the new POV going to be Theon's sister?

For a view of Dorne, as well as another fresh perspective on the Baratheon/Lannister royal family, I think Myrcella would be the idea viewpoint. However, I don't think that will be developed enough to merit a viewpoint until at least one more book. This one will be devoted more to the Free Cities and the Iron Islands, as sufficient new territory, I'm guessing.

I was hoping the new POV would be Briene. But a POV in Dorne or the Iron Islands would make more sense.

Couple of points :

1. Theon G, are you saying it's going to *be* Brienne or you *hope* it will be...?

I sure as hell hope not, because I think we've had enough of the 'must travel there, oh, and then there...Oh, I'm here and must now travel somewhere else again...'-kind of thing with Arya, Jamie (and Brienne), Bran et al.
She will continue her search for Sansa surely (and maybe keep Arya in the back of her mind - assuming she doesn't believe she's dead...), but I think the story would not need Brienne to succeed unless Sansa is at least come of age a bit.
Apart from the fact that she'll probably first go to the Northlands, following Jeyne Poole...

So I don't think it's going to be Brienne...yet...

2. Dem, I think we *will* have to have someone in Dorne to let us know what will happen with Myrcella. Considering the Dornish custom of inheritance being somewhat different than in the other parts of Westeros, I guess they're going to claim the Iron Throne through her (as she's older than Tommen, right ?). Of course that would mean that Cersei would have to somehow be *convinced* to relinquish her tentative hold on said throne, which could be achieved in various ways.
Of course, exactly *when* this'll happen I don't know, maybe only when Dany's existence becomes more widely known, but I'm thinking it's too good an opportunity to pass...

Just my twentyseven cents' worth,

I wonder, though, if a Myrcella viewpoint in Dorne wouldn't be just much like another Sansa viewpoint again -- a bit less naieve to begin with, but still a tool in the clutches of the people in power.

Anyway, the usual tactic seems to be to introduce us to a situation based on the reports that outsiders get about it first, and then give us an inside perspective only later on (e.g. the Vale, the Iron Islands). I maintain my contention that we won't get a new viewpoint down there for another book. I do, however, think that they may declare for Myrcella, in AFFC.

Ok, now the results, you UK/Ozzies

What are the new POV's?

I know, Iron Islands.. I saw one from Damphair, Asha... and I think Victarion? Given there were four chapters, I would expect... a fourth!

Fill us in please, you lucky people. (Yeah, it comes out tomorrow, but still, will take a while to get down to it)

I've had the book for a whole week now but I've been busy, so I'm only halfway done. It is good.. really good. And really complex.. much more than Jordan's books are. Since I'm reading it straight after finishing Knife of Dreams the difference is even more profound.

Anyway, new POV's so far. Cersei, of course. Brienne. Damphair, Asha and Victarion for the Iron Islands. Also, two different POV's from Dorne.. but I don't know if he's going to use the same people again or if it's a one time thing. You'll see for yourselves soon. Not Myrcella though. The Captain of the Guards, and one of the Kingsguard.
