Sounds vaguely tantalizing, like I've heard this once before...but I definitely can`t come up with it, so as for me I give up.

Ish?
Antacid?
...anyone? (:

ok, the answer is Neal Stephenson, the book is Snow Crash, Y.T. is the skater chick and one of the main characters. The reason this is a hard question is because she only mentions that Y.T. stands for Yours Truely once in the whole book.

hmmm.... new author....
ok Weapon: Sunjet and another: Kalishnakovs (not sure on the spelling of this one but it is also a weapon)

(edit) I realized hints might be too vague so here is one more:
religous belief: Quellism (also might be spelled wrong)

Well, that's obviously Broken Angels by Richard K. Morgan.
Ok, it wasn't so obvious, i cheated.

Let's make it an obscure one too.
character: Derik.
The Guild is after him.

Ok, well, as nobody knows, the book is This Alien Shore by C.S. Friedman, an excellent SF author btw.

The reason it was hard is because some of the characters are in the head of the main character, she has split personality, Derik is one of them.
Maybe it was too hard... but it had to be cheat proof.

So here's a different one... this one is easier.
A character: The Prince Who Was A Thousand

Please don't cheat. It's challenging, but not cheat proof.

That sounds Terry Pratchetty

I make a new vow, one weighed in experience and proclaimed with my eyes open: I will not raise my scimitars except in defense: in defense of my principles, of my life, or of others who cannot defend themselves. I will not do battle to further the causes of false prophets, to further the treasures of kings, or to avenge my own injured pride.

I can see why you might think that, but -- you're mistaken.
