Wow someone must have breathed new life into these boards sometime in the last few years when I wasn't looking.... It's a good thing to see.

Anyway, I just finished reading Robin McKinley's "Sunshine." It's about vampires.

Now, don't look at me like that. Normally I don't read that sort of thing. I'm much more of a Martin/Williams/Hobb type of fan. But I have read Robin McKinley's stuff before and enjoyed it. She usually writes books that are essentially fleshed-out versions of the fairytales we all know and love. But "Sunshine" is not quite like that. Still good though.

So I was wondering if any of you have read any good books about vampires. I have read most of Rice (in my younger years), and I'm not so sure I want to delve into Laurell Hamilton's stuff. Is there anything else out there that involves vampires?

"Over my dead body!"

"If you insist."

Hmmm, that's a good question. I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of the genre, and I've heard mixed things about Ms. Hamilton.

I think Rice pretty well has a lock on standard vampire fiction, although some of her related books are pretty bad. (Let's not even talk about the movie version of 'Queen of the Damned')

If you're looking for more classical vampire stuff, King's 'Salem Lot' is pretty good, and you can find some really enjoyable pulp kicking around out there =)

Still, can't say I'm much of help over here. Let me know if you find anything interesting.

I enjoy the house of night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. Starting with Marked. The characters are not what they seem.

For something more tongue in cheek, I enjoyed Vampire$ by John Steakley. John Carpenter's Vampires was loosely based on it.

You only truly lose when winning becomes more important than playing.
