As far as soundtracks go, John Williams and Danny Elfman are probably the top 2 in terms of consistently good soundtracks. Nothing beats "The Nightmare Before Christmas"' soundtrack. Though my favourite soundtracks are the Batman Forever (it has two Pumpkins songs, go figure) and, although the movie was ass, the soundtrack to Cruel Intentions is one of my favourites, if only for the Counting Crows track. And umm...I'll always have a soft spot for Disney soundtracks...

Ahhhh, I can't say I really liked 'Colorblind' but I love the Crows.

Their new greatest hits CD is kinda a let down, cause I really like the acoustic/alternate versions on 'Live Across a Wire' much more.

Still, the 3 new songs are fantastic - it's great to hear a nice studio cut of 'Einstein on the Beach'

I think the definitive hilarious techno song was made by strongbad; if you don't know who that is get over to www.homestarrunner.com. NOW. for some pure distilled stupidity.

the techno song is in Strongbad's E-mails under the title "techno" who'da thunk it.

I picked up the greatest hits just for the new tracks...their cover of "Friend of the Devil" is pretty good...but "A Long December" is still my favourite track. Brings out a whole string of emotions in me though...

And on some other note, The Cure just released a box set I think. I'm going to have to pick it up as they are probably one or two on my list of favourite bands.

Strong Bad kicks much ass. And as far as soundtracks go, you will be VERY hard pressed to mention one better than that of The Queen of the Damned.

I don't know about the soundtrack, but we're agreed that the movie sucked ass, right?

Spawn had a good soundtrack, if you were about that kind-o-music. I'm not a huge soundtracky guy, just not continous enough for me. I like my own mix of music, not some drunken producers.

as much as i love aaliyah, i have to agree with you. that movie was by far horrible. But aaliyah looked pretty Damn, (get it, Damn) good in it though.

Does anyone know that she was supposed to be in the matrix sequels, and thats why they took so long to come out because of her death.

she really was a beautiful women and a very talented singer as well.

The Queen of the Damned soundtrack was a bunch of crap by Jon Davis and Disturbed right? Can't say I "dug it". Actually...I guess it was just an exclamation point to the movie, which was subpar even by my loosest standards.

Can never go wrong with Queen. "Somebody To Love" is one of the greatest songs ever.

And as a side note, here's what's in my CD player right now (I need a 300 disc changer...that'd own, but I settle for 12):
1. Jackson Browne - The Naked Ride Home
2. The Jayhawks - Rainy Day Music
3. The The - Soul Mining
4. The Smiths - The Singles
5. Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
6. Beck - Sea Change
7. Whiskeytown - Pneumonia
8. Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales
9. The Verve - Urban Hymns
10. Travis - 12 Memories
11. Jerry Cantrell - Degredation Trip, Vol. 2
12. Type O Negative - Life Is Killing Me

I also actually like 'Garbage'. They have some good electronica/rock mixes, and some songs that are biased either way. Got some really catchy shit..

Dire Straits - That's classic. I could actually never bring myself to like whiskeytown. Or Wilco, for that matter.

And you have a 12 CD changer? That's just weird. Or are we talking in your car?

Oh yes...in my car. My room has a lowly single CD boombox from sometime long ago. Luckily, I have this wonderous box of wires and things that plays mp3's...

I really only listen to Whiskeytown's last CD, as it is most like Ryan Adams' solo stuff. Wilco though...Wilco is good shit. Better than Uncle Tupelo I think really...

All my music is on tape cassettes. yeah, remember those?

I play em on a Sony dream machine that I think was built ten years ago, but it makes noise. That's all that really matters. I've got all the music I want and its cheap, I just can't pick and choose my songs without hours of fast forwarding and rewinding.

mine is only like 50ish cd's at about 15 dollars a pop, it's my anime collection that's gonna kill me, so far it is at 40+ and 25 dollar's a dvd.....

I don't ussually like movie soundtracks and I absolutly hate the Now 1-16 mixes and other's like it because they ussually lean real heavy into one genre and get only one or two songs from another... that is why I waste about 2 hours of time every so often to make my own mixed cd's from the cds i own... personally i think the effort is worth it just so I don't have to go through 20 cds just to hear a series of songs I like

I'd say out of all of my CD's...maybe 10% of them are things I'd never admit to owning and have not listened to since high school...the rest, I can usually listen to them beginning to end and enjoy. There's a few I wouldn't say that about though...

Ooooooh, a "name your band" topic....!

Well, here goes :

- Radiohead : some truly classic stuff with some wildly over-the-top intellectual 'look-at-me' drivel...
- Nirvana : Yep. I was one of the first people in The Netherlands - I can honestly say - to ever hear of them AND to predict the super-mega-stardom they'd eventually and tragically achieve...Great innovative music in its time...
- The Doors : certain music fits certain moods perfectly. 'Nuff said.
- The Beatles : Hey, hey, hey ! No flaming ! They practically reinvented the whole music-industry by themselves and they made some very, very beautiful songs (just see how many you can name off the top of your head...)
- Bach : good old Johann Sebastian. Mathematics + music = perfection. I cry almost everytime I hear his Air in G-minor. What a genius of a man...
- Last but certainly not least : Infectious Grooves. Their 1st and 3rd albums are MUST HEARS for anyone with a metally-funk-oriented taste. It's a weird and incredibly funky hybrid of the deathly heavy Suicidal Tendencies and some funk-bro's. Put it on and feel the Funkin' Bass !!

And of course many more, but hey, I won't hog the board any longer...

Rev soundtrack was nice, and interesting call on the Dead Kennedy's. Don't hear about them much.

Patchface, I dunno how I forgot about the doors. Jim Morrison is God! Mmmmmm, soooo good. Hendrix is also quite good, as is Clapton around the same time.

I can't really say that I dislike Nirvana...but to me, they sound like a cheap Pixies/Melvins knockoff. And I guess the whole fact that Kurt Cobain couldn't play his own songs towards the end and hired Pap Smear to do it...along with the suicide, which is a cowards way out...sort of begrudges any respect I should have for them. That...and Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains...all made better music I think heh...oh...and the Screaming Trees, Kyuss, etc...

And umm...I think I'd rather listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Satriani or Steve Vai than Hendrix most of the time...
