I was just sitting here in a state of mind numbing insomnia listening to NIN still album, and I wonder what (if any) music others listen to as they try to drift into the subconscious bliss (or hell depending) of sleep?

hmm, i would have to say one of my mix cd's, I try to stay awake but then I just go out like a light
The cd that i listen to the most has these bands on it:
Adioslave, Chevelle, Evanescence, Good Charlotte, GreenDay, Incubus, Sense Field, Staind, Three Days Grace, Trapt, Hoobastank, Limp Bizkit(spelling?), Stroke 9, Dave Matthews Band, and Linkin Park

I need absolute darkness and silence to sleep. However, Pink Floyd in a pitch black room is awesome. "The reign of the Division Bell has begun"

Especially is you've got good speaker separation (which I wish I had)

Hmm...something classical, or Radiohead tends to work...anything more quiet than loud I suppose

i have to go to sleep watchin silence of the lamb every night.

okay maybe i'm lying. That's just a little too creepy for me .

I'm with Elyas, it has to dark, i don't even want to see myself when i'm sleeping.

I prefer no noise, but i can sleep through lightning storm.

I used to loud music or people hopping and hollaring all night.

i find i cam go sleep at anytime given moment

Yeah, I usually don't have a problem seeing myself off to sleep, I've had plenty of practice, believe you me.

As for music though, It has to be something I've heard a million times, or I'll end up staying up so I can pay attention to it. Even if I have heard it tons, I still end up waiting for a specific song to come. So in general, just quietude will do.

I listen to music too actively to fall asleep to it. I listen to the lyrics and the instruments blending together and the emotion (if its good music you should be able to find all that in it).

I can't make my mind blank out when there's music or noisiness, I always get bumped out of my sleep declination (I couldn't think of a better term) by the slightest distraction. Sometimes it's infuriating but if you're tired enough you can sleep through anything.

Exactly...if there's silence...I'm not sleeping because I'm thinking. And thinking isn't always a good thing...leads to nightmares most of the time in my case heh =(

you know, sometimes i like to close my eyes and try and reach my inner void. I try to clear my thoughs and search for something. but I don't know what it is i'm searching for, but i do it anyway. I find that i have a hard time keeping the my focus. but to me it seems like every time i do so, i'm going down a hole, a black pit, and every time i get farther and farther, but i never reach the end. I'm not asleep, but rather in my subconscious.

i know weird

it's wierd if i force myself to try and sleep I can feel my mind drift, then instead of becoming detached from the body I get more in tune with it. It's creepy as hell, I start to feel every little annoying itch and how cold my toes are then it takes FOREVER to fall asleep. So I either need to be seriously trashed when I get into bed, or I need to distract my mind with music or something else, otherwise I'll never get to sleep
