Rand was told in the lands of the Finn that "To live, you must die"
From Mins viewing, Alivia aids in Rands death.
Alivia will introduce him to the Tuon, but will find Semirhage instead. Rand will die at Semirhages hand.
Now the fun bit. Plainly Rand is dying or going mad from his wounds. His only hope would be to die, and be reborn. Once he dies, his body would rot away.
Isnt it possible for Rand to be ripped away from Tel'aranrhiod, as he is one of the heroes bound to the wheel, in the same way as Birgitte?
Once back into our world, no sickness affecting his brain.

pretty much, HOW and WHEN he dies is about the only question, Nynaeve and Egwene are sure to figure in how to bring him back

I've no news about the series right now, & I'm too lazy to search the net , last time I went to tha bookstore there was a WOT prequel (w/c I'm sure has been discussed here?), maybe I'll get that as treat next week or whenever I finish with Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell

...those left standing will make millions writing books on the way it should have been...

What if Rand is actually killed and then brought back from the dead. anybody every considered that. Stryfe gave me that idea. Some how its not that far fetched.

I'll admit that the "Nynaeve can cure anything" theory plays into the Fischer King myth that Jordan has recreated in randland. It does go into Min's vision of Rand ultimately living as a beggar(Powerless, mad, anonymous, and unable to die). But I don't believe that will be what ultimately happens to make Rand again (I think that Lan deserves a little immortality and that plays into Nyaeve's self-interest more).

Two theories:

A) The multiple souls fighting to win out might "kill" Rand (submerging him) until the battle is won.

B) The easiest way for the Finn's and Min to be correct involves judicious application of balefire.

We've already seen Balefire's ability to fix what ails you. Remember when Matt and Rand were attacked by Darkhounds and Matt had been either slobbered on or scratched? According to Moraine that's a death sentence.

Rand inadvertently saved Matt by spewing forth the balefire to smite those darkhounds.

Rand did it again when he reversed the deaths of Egwene and Avehenda (sp?) by killing a Chosen with Balefire. And that time he did it intentionally.

So the real question is: Who else will realize (or be taught) the restorative powers of balefire.

1) Alivia is excellent with destructive weaves

2) Moraine knows and Min has predicted that she must be present for Rand to succeed.

3) Rand himself could weave a balefire that would strike his target after he died. Then, through influence or direct effect, the balefire cancels out the actions that percipitate rand's death.

And, from the nonexistent lips of this thread's founder, LTT raved that Balefire will solve it all.

The prequal is called New Spring. I just finished reading at the bookstore (I'm poor, I read new releases at Borders. Takes more time, costs less). It wasn't exactly bad, yet, like most RJ of late, it wasn't exactly good. Hey, he doesn't need to string out the series by taking forever and a day to reach the LB, he can just work from the other end and give us a few dozen prequals. I can already see the plotlines: Moiraine Meets Lan, Rands dad goes on an adventure, LTT and the Age of Legends, Randland recovers from the LB, the LB...wait.

Anywho, as far as Rand's death goes, we have to remember that at the moment he has not one, not two, but THREE women. Three women. Every month. And we expect him to survive this?

We must also always remember that a viewing has many interpretations and to read too much into what someone thinks a viewing means only confuses people all the more. Don't get caught in the trap of RJ and read too much into what his characters "think" something means. Let it play out and see. I think that Rand will break the wheel and let the Dark One touch the world, but there will no longer be any One Power to give his chosen an advantage over others. It will be ordinary people against ordinary people with Dark and Light fighting mundanely.

True, true. My take on the living after dying scenario is that he will die for the greater good, but brought back to life by the GOOD Creator or something without his channeling, or with his channelling but not using it. All of the visions are obsure and are met by their own accord. When the visions are put to words there is a loss in translation along the way. Elaida still believes that she will bring the Dragon Reborn to heel because of her vision.

Rand has it right, what will be will be and he has no control over it. He is sure that he will survive whatever it is. He WILL be there for the last battle and he is just getting ready.

Also, he thinks the girls will be better off without him anyway. So he sees it as a win/win situation for the girls.

The prophecy states that "the Dragon will die." It doesn't say necessarily Rand will die... I've spouted off about this many a time before, my wife thinks I am just point-mongering now...smile. I think LTT will be 'killed' leaving Rand 'alive' to share all his wives' company.
