So, its come to my attention that I'm fat. I'm not talking 'I've got a few too many pounds fat', I'm talking 'Oh my god it looks like he swallowed a 100lb tub of lard fat'.

Anyways, I digress.

So, apparently the best solution to fat is activity. Of any sort. Granted, some activities are better than others, but pretty much any activity is better than no activity. Or so I'm told.

So I've taken to walking. Well, again. I used to walk quite a bit, but I havn't been of late.

Of course, me being me, I can't just, say, walk on a treadmill. Noo, thats much to boring. Instead, I walk the Mall. Not the shopping variety, the area that runs between the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol building in Washington, DC. Sometimes I'll walk the Tidal Basin instead. If you do a full circuit of the mall, from Lincoln to the fountain in front of the Capitol, its about 4 miles. Around the Tidal Basin its about 2 miles.

And the sights - let me tell you about the sights. The majestic Washington Monument, rising from the ground; the Capitol building, with the dome gleaming in the sunlight; the multitude of fountains down at the World War II memorial; and Lincoln sitting in quiet solitude at the Lincoln memorial. Of course, around the Tidal Basin, theres the Jefferson Memorial, the FDR Memorial, and George Mason has a little memorial just off the walking trail.

And then the other sort of sights - the ones you get to see on a hot summer day in the middle of the afternoon, or even into the evening... mmmm.... tasty.

Anyways, I thought I'd talk about walking for a bit. Now I'm done.

Wow! That is amazing! I'm fat too!

I've heard about this walking thing but don't personally believe in it. I'm trying to bike more.

Any chance you could give us weekly update on how it is working?

You could do it in the name of Science! Weird Science!

(Sorry about the reply, that is the most awesome post I ever read and I want more)

I'm sure that something can be arranged. At the moment, I do most of my walking with a good friend of mine, and the only times we can make it work is Saturday - Tuesday. I last went walking on Tuesday, and I did about 4.5 miles then, and prior to that I walked on Sunday, for about... 2.5 miles, maybe? My friend works Saturday night, so I'll prolly be out walking again on Sunday.

Of course, if I decide to leave my car at the shop overnight tonight (need some basic maintenance done, hit one of those 'vehicle milestones' you know, and an oil change...), I'll walk home from the shop. Thats... oh, 2 miles? *checks* 1.6 miles, according to MapPoint.

Dude! This is better than reading a blog because you haven't sold out to the media hype yet man.

I see this personal health/board format becoming, like, the next incarnation of Budha the Enlightened One. Only you haven't been to Nirvana yet.

Seriously, that's a crap load of walking. I'm doing about 5 miles twice a week with all the mechanical advantage of a bike and I feel like I'm dying. What I'm trying to say is, congrats especially in that swamp cum capital of ours in the summer thats an achievement.

Well, I've not surrendered to the media hype, but I'm not going walking tonight either. I just feel like crap, after I took an unexpected afternoon nap. Bleh.

I've been putting on weight over the last few months since I stopped training at Taekwondo. Uni work chews up toto much time, but I'm hopefully going to be going back next Monday.

I should be 83kg. I went up to 93 during a long break, then started again and down to 89, then stopped and I'm around 95-96. The problem is, when I'm not training, it's because I'm studying, and that consists of sitting at a desk eating a crapload of junk food.

I make a new vow, one weighed in experience and proclaimed with my eyes open: I will not raise my scimitars except in defense: in defense of my principles, of my life, or of others who cannot defend themselves. I will not do battle to further the causes of false prophets, to further the treasures of kings, or to avenge my own injured pride.

Well, I've not surrendered to the media hype, but I did surrender to the 95+ heat index at 10pm for walking last night. I played a round of mini-golf instead. I sucked. +17.
