So, I've been wondering what the various lurkers (come on, I know theres at least one of you) think about anime. I realize its a fairly vast subject, but, I guess, in general.

I ask because some people seem to hate the entire idea of the thing, and some people seem to love it.

Me, I've been rather non-committal on the whole subject (well, actually, on both anime and manga), but I've recently been sucked into a series airing over in Japan known as Bleach. I've purchased all the Bleach manga released in the states, and through various sources, have determined what the plot is to come. Its truly fascinating, and the story / series has caused me to begin to rethink my apathy towards the subject.

I've now read and watched a few different series, and I must say, it is... unique. But in a good way, I think. I dunno.

Anyways, opinions?

Well, I have been quite the anime fan for quite some time now. With me it started when I was in high school, I saw Escaflowne on TV and watched Cowboy Bebop at a friend’s house. Now I own some 60-70 dvds. Anyhow, I have never been a big fan of manga because I was never that big into comic books as a child.

I feel that most series are worth watching for various reasons. Like Escaflowne has a good storyline, most of the Gundam incarnations have reasonably good storylines and almost always have good amounts of action. The epic-ness of animes like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust makes them must watches for anyone who likes anime. Other animes are just cool to look at because of how good the animation is, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust also fills this category, as well as the new Appleseed (albeit this one has no other value than it’s looks). And so forth.

I really could go on, but I won’t. If you want some recommendations my favorite series to date are: Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Seed, Zone of the Enders, and Berserk. The best episode out of any I have seen is probably Ballad of Fallen Angels, from Cowboy Bebop.

It depends on the type of Anime. I can't stand the crap like Pokemon, Dragonball Z, or the 'new' Transformers.

As a kid, I loved Transformers, and I loved Robotech. The first anime I really got into after that also involved Mecha, things like Neon Genesis: Evangelion, and Bubblegum Crisis 2040. Sow I'm getting into other Anime. Trigun, Hellsing, Slayers, and other things my friends watch I'd probably enjoy, if I had the time.

I make a new vow, one weighed in experience and proclaimed with my eyes open: I will not raise my scimitars except in defense: in defense of my principles, of my life, or of others who cannot defend themselves. I will not do battle to further the causes of false prophets, to further the treasures of kings, or to avenge my own injured pride.

As far as anime goes, I used to be fairly big into. Evangelion, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Akira. Mostly the mainstream stuff.

My personal favorite was Ranma 1/2. Such a great anime, I feel it would have crossed over very well here in the states. In fact, I still think about purchasing the DVDs.

I'm also a big fan of Princess Mononoke, Sprited Away, Grave of the Fireflies...

Anime? I've heard of Transformers. That was a show on, um, a while ago when I was, like, old already! Smile. Manga? What's manga? I always hated asking my young employees what terms and things were...

You know, i have no problem with anime. actually, there are these two movies that came on really late years ago, but they were so cool. Teh first one was about this vampire slayer dude who was actually a vampire. I can't remeber any more but i think i he had to fight like one of his one family members. The other movie is about this lil girl. That movie was on so late one night that all i remeber is the girl wasn't real or something like that, and they had to make her cry or make her stop crying or the world was going to end. Also they were at a stadium. I don't remeber anything else about that movie , but told myself i had to watch it when i was woke. if anyone knows either of those movie titles please i would be greatly appreicitaive.
(everyone knows i can't spell)

Ok, the first one is almost definitely either Vampire Hunter D, or it’s sequel Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Just as a recommendation another really good vampire anime series is Hellsing. As for the second… I am not sure. It really could be any number of movies, seeing as several animes involve the possible destruction of Earth as a major plot point. One possibility is Akira. I am just guessing this one from the fact that the battle in the stadium is a major part. Another possibility is Escaflowne the Movie. Other than those two options I really don’t know.

Another possibility for the second title is 'Lain'. I don't remember if there was a stadium, but there was this big thing about if she was real or not, and how perception can affect reality... or at least, thats what I'm recalling, anyways.
