I was wondering if anyone here has grabbed the new PhysX card that is out on the market. According to the press blurb, the PhysX card is designed to handle processing of physics for games to make things more realistic without throwing that processing on the main CPU. Or something. I know City of Heroes / City of Villains supports it - and I believe one of the Counter-Strike varients does as well... but I don't know much more than that. Anyone here have a chance to play with it?

I haven't got one, but I read a lot about it, as I bought a new $6000 computer for myself recently (Aussie dollars). I wouldn't buy one at the moment, although I'm optimistic about their future. As it stands there's only a couple of gmaes that can take advantage of it, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare being one of them. However, when using it, there is a marked framerate drop. Currently, better physics = many more shiny little particles from explosions, and this really chugs most systems. So it's a traeoff between more accurate physics, and a decent framerate.

I make a new vow, one weighed in experience and proclaimed with my eyes open: I will not raise my scimitars except in defense: in defense of my principles, of my life, or of others who cannot defend themselves. I will not do battle to further the causes of false prophets, to further the treasures of kings, or to avenge my own injured pride.

So the question becomes at what point is your video hardware so insane that you can use a PhysX card without suffering a noticable drop in framerate? I'm fairly certain I'd see it then on my dual 6600gts, but those are old hat now. Maybe grab a pair of 7900's, or a pair of 7950's?
